GLS Spain joins Movimiento Ultreya

  • Supporting this initiative reinforces GLS’ commitment as a responsible, socially and environmentally conscious company.
  • A partnership that fosters a culture of sustainable development

Madrid, 29 June 2021. The international parcel and express service provider GLS Spain announces its collaboration with Movimiento Ultreya as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility actions to promote aid to the most vulnerable groups.

Movimiento Ultreya is a project created during the pandemic by a group of men and women with the aim of supporting the revitalization of the economy, collaborating with local businesses, and helping those families that have been particularly affected by the economic crisis caused by COVID-19.

This solidarity initiative, which has the collaboration of up to 20 business associations, consists of a tour of Spain by bicycle in which an expedition of 10 cyclists will take part, completing 14 stages through different Spanish cities. At the end of each stage, the local Caritas delegation will receive from the cyclists a donation of all the funds raised along the route, which will be invested in local businesses through the purchase of essential commodities for vulnerable families and groups in the area.

Movimiento Ultreya’s mission to face the current situation with optimism and share values such as solidarity and teamwork, as well as the close relationship between the initiative and GLS Spain’s business activity, have led to the alliance between the two organizations.

“At GLS Spain we support Movimiento Ultreya as it represents local cooperation and support for small and medium-sized businesses through effort and sport. We encourage both our staff and agencies to get involved in this initiative whose values are also part of our company”, says Mireia Ruzafa, Marketing & Communication Manager Iberia at GLS.

GLS Spain’s support for this project reinforces its commitment to helping small local businesses through donations, the company’s responsibility to society and its contribution to the fulfilment of the UN’s 10 Universal Principles and Sustainable Development Goals 2, 3, 8 and 17.

“Having the backing of GLS Spain means having the endorsement of a large and credible company. To coincide in the discourses of support for vulnerable groups, social responsibility and valuing and caring for the environment, is an injection of positive energy to Movimiento Ultreya. It reinforces our conviction that more committed ways of doing things in companies are possible”, says Juan Ignacio Fernández, Coordinator of Movimiento Ultreya. “Without a doubt, the collaboration with GLS Spain provides us with one of the most important endorsements we have to be able to implement a national project like this”, he concludes.
