Corona virus – Preventive measures at GLS

With the distribution of parcels, GLS performs an important service for supplying society. The current situation makes our responsibility even more evident. We are doing everything we can to protect the health of the people involved in our business and continue to ensure the logistics of the parcels. To this end, we have introduced a number of measures based on official health and governmental authority recommendations, verified on a daily basis.

The measurements include:

  • Employees, partners, suppliers and drivers receive detailed information on the necessary hygiene measures and are expressly requested to check and comply with them.
  • If employees show early signs of a virus infection, they are asked to stay away from the workplace or are sent home immediately and asked to see a doctor.
  • Business trips have been cancelled. Meetings and conferences are kept to a minimum or are conducted by telephone or videoconference.
  • We constantly monitor relevant developments and immediately initiate the necessary measures if necessary.
  • Specialists work preventively on contingency plans to maintain the distribution of parcels as new scenarios arise in Spain, such as areas or roads being cut off or the temporary closure of locations.

Security advice

GLS warns its customers about an increase in fraudulent emails containing requests for payment and offers of employment as “parcel agents” that are intended to conceal the final location of fraudulently obtained goods or misuse the system. GLS constantly seeks to protect its customers from these types of scams.

Other cases of fraud/phishing have also been detected, maliciously using the name and image of GLS. We help you detect them and know what to do if you come across one of them.

The United Kingdom (UK) ceased to be a member of the European Union on 31.01.2020, with a transition period until the end of 2020. As of 01.01.2021, only shipments arriving with full customs information will be processed.

Learn what customs regulations are expected in the future for shipments to the UK. The Republic of Ireland remains a member of the EU and, as it stands today, Northern Ireland remains in the customs union. For shipments to both parts of Ireland, no customs clearance will be required.

Fuel

The fuel surcharge on fuel prices has a significant impact on transport costs. To compensate for volatile fuel prices, most national transport companies of GLS carriers collect a fuel surcharge. It is normally calculated using the Consumer Price Index (CPI) and is also shown separately on bills.

Calculate the fuel surcharge

GLS Spain calculates the cost based on the current official rates. For more information, visit the Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Trade website*.
