Elimination of customs duties on iundustrial tariffs in Switzerland

Starting January 1, 2024, Switzerland will abolish industrial tariffs, marking a significant shift in its trade policy. This measure aims to address the high cost of goods in the country compared to its neighbors, attributed to both tariff and non-tariff trade barriers. The removal of industrial tariffs is designed to bolster Switzerland’s business and industrial standing by removing hindrances to material imports and reducing production costs.

Security advice

GLS warns its customers about an increase in fraudulent emails containing requests for payment and offers of employment as “parcel agents” that are intended to conceal the final location of fraudulently obtained goods or misuse the system. GLS constantly seeks to protect its customers from these types of scams.

Other cases of fraud/phishing have also been detected, maliciously using the name and image of GLS. We help you detect them and know what to do if you come across one of them.

Brexit information

The United Kingdom (UK) ceased to be a member of the European Union on 31.01.2020, with a transition period until the end of 2020. As of 01.01.2021, only shipments arriving with full customs information will be processed.

Learn what customs regulations are expected in the future for shipments to the UK. The Republic of Ireland remains a member of the EU and, as it stands today, Northern Ireland remains in the customs union. For shipments to both parts of Ireland, no customs clearance will be required.

Fuel

The fuel surcharge on fuel prices has a significant impact on transport costs. To compensate for volatile fuel prices, most national transport companies of GLS carriers collect a fuel surcharge. It is normally calculated using the Consumer Price Index (CPI) and is also shown separately on bills.

GLS Spain calculates the cost based on the current official rates. For more information, visit the Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Trade website*.
