Valencia, April 1, 2025 – GLS Spain continues to optimize its operational network with the expansion of its hub located in the La Reva Industrial Park, in Ribarroja de Turia (Valencia). With this development, the facility will reach a total surface area of 12,063 m² and will include a state-of-the-art parcel sorting system. Thanks to this technological upgrade, processing capacity will increase to 14,130 parcels per hour, significantly improving operational efficiency and reducing delivery times throughout the region.

“This expansion is a key step in continuing to optimize our operations in Valencia, a strategic location within our network. The implementation of advanced technologies will enable us to enhance our sorting capabilities and provide an even faster and more efficient service to our customers,” explains Jorge Giménez, Division Manager East at GLS Spain.

In addition, this investment reaffirms the company’s commitment to sustainability and employee well-being.

“We’re not only aiming to improve our operational capacity, but also to promote more sustainable development through efficient infrastructure and spaces adapted to our team’s needs,” adds Jorge Giménez.

Innovation and sustainability at the core of the new facility

The center will feature a new automated sorting system, currently consisting of an operational Pop-up sorter with a net capacity of 4,000 parcels per hour. In the coming months, this will be complemented by a new LR Equinox automatic sorter with a capacity of 6,000 parcels per hour and 84 outputs. This system will allow more efficient management of small-sized shipments, enabling up to 75% of the parcels processed in the area to benefit from the new sorting technology.

With this upgrade, GLS will strengthen connections with its national and international networks, improving shipment distribution with greater efficiency and flexibility, especially during peak demand periods.

The expansion also supports GLS Spain’s environmental goals, incorporating a high-efficiency photovoltaic system and electric vehicle charging stations for its fleet, helping reduce its carbon footprint.

Furthermore, the facility has been designed to improve the working environment, with spacious and functional areas, rest zones, and improved access to streamline daily operations for the team.

Operational resilience after the DANA storm and collaboration with JHernando

This expansion comes just months after GLS overcame the challenges posed by the DANA storm in October, which severely impacted its Valencia facilities. Thanks to the collaboration with JHernando, a Spanish engineering firm with over 50 years of experience, GLS managed to restore and reactivate its sorting systems in record time, allowing operations to continue smoothly during the peak end-of-year season.

With this new investment, GLS reaffirms its commitment to innovation, sustainability, and continuous improvement, ensuring faster and more efficient operations at one of the most strategic logistics hubs in its Spanish network.
