Important information about shipping to and from Spain

The safety of our staff, delivery personnel, employees, customers and recipients is a priority for us. Following the health crisis situation caused by COVID-19, we have activated various prevention and health protection measures.

Temporarily, and with the aim of protecting the health of our delivery staff and recipients, the process of ZERO contact delivery and collection is underway, where the delivery person and recipient must maintain the distance recommended by the health authorities of 1.5 metres (3 steps).

We remain in direct contact with GLS subsidiaries to stay updated on the situation in each of the countries in the network in order to provide updated information.

We would like to thank our staff, couriers and agencies for their involvement and dedication during this time. We would like to thank our customers for their trust and understanding in this exceptional situation.

National situation

On 25.10.2020 a nationwide state of alarm was declared to contain the spread of infections caused by SARSCoV by Royal Decree 926/2020 and a six-month extension was issued, starting on 09.11.2020 and ending on 09.05.2021.

The Autonomous Communities (and the autonomous cities of Ceuta and Melilla) will have legal instruments that will allow them to take, make more flexible or suspend measures in their territorial scope and following the evolution of health, epidemiological, social, economic and mobility indicators. The effectiveness of the measure may not be less than seven calendar days.

International situation

Exporting and importing your goods is still possible. However, the pandemic situation is currently worsening in several European countries, and national governments are trying to counteract this with restrictions. As a result, all transportation service providers, including GLS, must assume that delays in international transit times may occur in some cases. Please take this into account in your shipping planning.

Make sure your recipients in the destination country are able to receive shipments. If the collection points are closed due to the current situation, the parcel will be returned directly to the sender.

  • Please note:

Due to Social Distancing policies, for the time being, the maximum weight limitation will be temporarily reduced to 31.5kg across the European network. Heavier parcels require assisted pick-up and delivery, either by the customer or by a second courier. Until further notice, a temporary maximum weight of 31.5kg per shipment applies throughout Europe.

Domestic shipments within Spain and Portugal are not affected by this restriction, so this only applies to export shipments (EuroBusinessParcel and EuroExpressParcel).
